Back 2 School Bash returns to Stanley

The Mountrail County Health Foundation, Stanley Park District and the Stanley Public Schools are teaming up with the Stanley Police Department, the Mountrail County Medical Center, Stanley Fire Department, Stanley Ambulance Service, the Upper Missouri District Health Unit and the six local churches to provide for you and your family the 1st Annual Back 2 School Bash.This event will be held on Friday, August 4th from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM in conjunction with Crazy Days in Stanley.It will be held in the east parking lot of the High School.Please park in the west parking lot.

August is Back to School and Playground Safety while September is National School Backpack Awareness Day.MCMC will have a table with informational pamphlets of back to school safety, playground safety and how to wear your backpack properly.This also will be the drop off point of the GET OFF THE COUCH AND GO SUMMER CHALLENGE punch card.The Yeti cooler will be awarded to the most active child in Stanley at 4:00 PM!You need not to be present to win.

On this day, MCMC also will be offering sports physicals at discounted rate of $10 off the normal charge.A special rate of $25 JUST FOR THAT day will be given and it will be cash and checks only.Appointments will be every ten minutes.Please call the clinic at 628-2505 to schedule an appointment for this event; it will be first come first serve.You will need to have your forms filled out ahead of time and they will need to be signed by the parent and athlete or you will not be seen.You can find this paperwork at www.ndhsaa.com.

August is also national immunization month and the Upper Missouri District Health Unit will be on hand at the high school during the Bash to give immunizations to children who need to update their shots.UMDHU submits claims to Medicaid, Sanford and Blue Cross.All other insured’s will have to pay cash/check at the time of service and will receive a receipt to submit to their insurance company.The charges are dependent on what each child needs are for vaccinations. Some are required for school, some are just recommended. Please call the health unit at 701-774-6400 for information on immunizations, immunization records and cost.If you have no insurance it is just a suggested donation per shot.

The Stanley Police Department will be offering bike safety tips, finger printing and car seat checks.Ace Hardware, Mountrail Williams and the MCHF have donated bikes and helmets to be used as door prizes at the event.And, if you arrive with your own helmet on…you may be in for a nice surprise!

The Stanley Ambulance and Stanley Fire Department will also be on hand to give tours of their ambulances and trucks and maybe cool off the children, if needed!Oscar’s Ice Cream will be selling treats for event goers and a “Minute to Win It” game will allow kids to win gift cards from Shopko and receive consolation prizes donated by MCHF and SRT.

The six local churches will be kicking off their outreach programs for local students that day.A Back to School supply fund drive is in motion at each church body.Each church is asking for different donations from their members ranging from tennis shoes to socks to school supplies.There will be a table to drop off these items at the Back 2 School bash.Children from Kindergarten to Sixth Grade will be able to shop these items at Back to School night on August 22nd from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Another new outreach program being introduced that day is “The Portable Pantry” for the children at the Grade School that are in need of help over the weekend for meals.Informational brochures and applications will be made available to parents that day. And more details will be emerging about this wonderful new program over the next month to the community.
